It is a large-scale PV plant designed to produce bulk electrical power from solar radiation. The solar power plant uses solar energy to produce electrical power. Therefore, it is a conventional power plant. Solar energy can be used directly to produce electrical energy using solar PV panels.
A basic photovoltaic system integrated with utility grid is shown in Fig. 2. The PV array converts the solar energy to dc power, which is directly dependent on insolation. Blocking diode facilitates the array generated power to flow only towards the power conditioner.
However, the principles of solar PV measurement, performance and management discussed in this Guide can be applied, with caution, to other forms and scales of solar PV array, and indeed other renewable power generation technologies.
In literature, three general maintenance strategies for solar PV systems are mentioned: corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance.
