The lead–acid batteries are both tubular types, one flooded with lead-plated expanded copper mesh negative grids and the other a VRLA battery with gelled electrolyte. The flooded battery has a power capability of 1.2 MW and a capacity of 1.4 MWh and the VRLA battery a power capability of 0.8 MW and a capacity of 0.8 MWh.
Improvements to lead battery technology have increased cycle life both in deep and shallow cycle applications.
